L’Oreal Elvive Smooth-Intense Anti-Frizz Shampoo

  • Posted on May 15, 2010 at 6:20 pm

L'Oreal Elvive Smooth-Intense Anti-Frizz ShampooA rich shampoo for those with very dry, damaged or coarse hair.

It moisturises well and even while washing hair feels supple and strong, only if hair is very dirty will you need  second wash.

We found this best for those with very damaged or dry hair, especially those who use straightener or heat stylers a lot.  If you only have slightly dry hair, or fly-away hair, you’ll find this much to rich.

Good value, often on offer in supermarkets.

Elemis Aromazing Shampoo

Elemis Aromazing ShampooThis shampoo has a lovely fresh clean scent to it which wooed us immediately!  At £12.50 a bottle though we put our sensible head back on!

Overall we really like this shampoo, it cleanses extremely well, though we did find we needed a second wash on greasier/dirtier hair – if you wash your hair daily you’ll probably just need one wash.  The first wash doesn’t always lather up that well, but the second will.

It leaves hair feeling clean and nicely scented, but it does not moisturise very well – you will need a conditioner – however the performance of our conditioners seemed to be improved when using this, something we hadn’t considered noting when reviewing shampoos before.

We have heard some reports of problems on sensitive scalps, although we did not find this in our testing we would recommend a patch test for those with senstive skin.

If the price tag doesn’t put you off this is a great shampoo to use.

Pantene Pro-V Restoratives Breakage Defence Shampoo

  • Posted on October 26, 2009 at 6:57 pm

Well we can’t argue with price on Pantene products, but do they really do a good enough job? Breakage Defence and all its science seems like it should come with a much bigger price tag.

Overall, the longer term results from this shampoo are good – hair certainly seems stronger and, for some, thicker, so it certainly does what it says it should.

This is quite a thick ’sticky’ shampoo, by which we mean we found it quite difficult to rinse out fully, which meant we either found we were leaving too much residue on our hair, leading to a flaky or itchy scalp (a bad reaction for one tester led to sore patches), or we were spending much longer washing our hair through which some of us found a bit frustrating.

For some the shampoo was too rich, it left hair greasier quicker, meaning hair had to be washed more often. For those who wash their hair everyday this wasn’t too bad, but it was inconvenient for those who wash their hair every 2-3 days.

Overall, if you have very damaged hair this is worth a try, but please do a patch test first and be prepared to spend more time rinsing, and possibly washing, our hair.

John Frieda Sheer Blonde Go Blonder Lightening Conditioner

Whether you’re a natural blonde or have your hair coloured or highlighted we think you’ll like this conditioner.

This is such a rich conditioner, which in itself is excellent for blonde hair – it’s very nourishing and has certainly improved hair strength and shine with continued use.

Lightening-wise there is certainly a difference, even after the first couple of uses – brassiness is reduced and swimmers found it helped reduce the swimming pool effect.  By the time we got to the end of the tube, hair was definitely lighter, brighter, shinier and in much better condition.

Dove Balance Therapy Conditioner with Protecting Serum

  • Posted on February 19, 2009 at 12:46 pm

This is a great buy, especially if you have dry or damaged hair. As with many cheaper products, we were not hopeful about the results, but we truly were impressed.

It’s a thick, creamy conditioner which absorbs well into the hair – try leaving it on for 5-10 minutes for an even more intensive treatment. The first time we used it we thought it difficult to rinse, but after talking to each other we realised it’s not that the product was left in, our hair just hadn’t felt so moisturised before!!

The results are hydrated, thicker-looking and shinier hair. Split-ends are less noticeable and frizziness is reduced.

As this is such a rich conditioner we recommend reducing the amount you use if you use a moisturising shampoo – when used with Dove’s Intensive Care Therapy Shampoo it tends to make hair go greasy quicker than usual. For those who like a deep cleansing or clarifying shampoo, this is the ideal partner as it will hydrate the hair very well.
