Malibu Sun Spray Lotion SPF15 (Continuous Spray)

Malibu Sun Spray Lotion SPF15 (Continuous Spray)

It’s officially summer now that we have lovely sunny days and with the scramble for sun care products! We’ve been trying out Malibu’s new continuous spray can of SPF15 lotion… it’s a lovely light lotion which is easily absorbed into the skin, keeping skin soft and healthy-looking like a body lotion. It’s not at all greasy and is a great choice for everyday sun protection. The combination of a light lotion and spray can seems to make the product go further and the continuous spray is great – it makes it quick and easy to apply all over the body and the bottle is designed so that it can be sprayed at any angle. The only downside is that the can does get a bit slippy and we did drop it a few times, but that tends to happen with most bottles of sun lotion. The scent is ok… it’s a typical holiday sun lotion fragrance, certainly nothing offensive! Definitely avoid the eyes, actually we’d suggest an alternative product for face as it really does sting eyes, even if you’re trying to avoid them! Overall, a good value product (RRP £7.99 for 175ml) – the continuous spray is also available in SPF10 and SPF30. As with all sun protection products, please ensure you re-apply regularly and after swimming – check the product instructions. Malibu Sun Bronzing Butter SPF15

Malibu Sun Bronzing Butter SPF15

There’s something very appealing about a tub of sun protection rather than a squirty bottle! Perhaps it’s our slight obsession with body butters in general! The Bronzing Butter from Malibu Sun feels like a luxury product, it glides on to skin easily, making it quick to apply and it’s easy to see where you have and haven’t applied too as it glistens on the skin. We recommend this if you’re sunbathing as it’s too greasy for everyday use, unless you have particularly dry skin. It is water resistant, but not for long, so may want to choose an alternative product if you’re swimming. All in all a great product and excellent value (RRP: £4.99 for 250ml). Almay Bare-it All Legs

Almay’s new fake tan comes in a satiny bronze 85g aerosol promising ‘flawless-looking legs instantly’. Clearly, this is NOT your classic time-delay bronzer but a make-up for your legs and I must confess, as a ‘genuine’ tan devotee (Factor 15 minimum, guys!) I’m intrigued to see how this measures up. The product claims to offer transfer resistant colour which can help to hide minor skin imperfections such as freckles and veins, while nourishing skin with its Vitamin E enriched formula. It is ‘hypoallergenic’ and ‘good for sensitive skin’. Packaging / Dispensing: Despite my eco-qualms, I was pleased to see an aersol product, assuming that I could simply spray it onto my legs the way that I’d spray a foundation (e.g. DiorSkin AirFlash) on my face. But don’t get excited, ladies, I’m not sure what the point of the aerosol is, except to fool us into thinking that this is something it’s not: the instructions say to ‘spray directly into hand’ then ‘blend evenly’ onto skin. Now perhaps I’m missing something, but I’m fairly sure I could have squeezed some of the product from a tube or liquid dispenser into my hand just as efficiently as spraying it, and without the guilt of pumping more pollutants into the atmosphere. Application: It’s hard to judge how much to spray into your hand at first, particularly when the product begins to dry almost as soon as it has been sprayed. Transfer onto skin is slightly odd because although the product can be spread a bit, it feels dense and dry – not at all like the time-delay fake tans that I’ve used...

Boots Soltan Once Lotion

Soltan Once lotion is a sun protection cream which allows one application to last up to 6 hours, with up to 40 minutes swimming. We jumped at the chance to try this product – what could be better than only having to apply sun lotion every 6 hours? Sadly we were to be disappointed. Despite following in instructions we burnt after 2-3 hours and it barely protected us in the water. In addition to that the lotion is sticky and uncomfortable, even after the recommended waiting time after application, and later we found that it stained some of our clothes quite badly. Available in SPF15, SPF30 & SPF40. Availability: Boots Pin...
